Ghana Three Cities Tour
10 Day Tour

DAY 01:

NEW YORK / LONDON

Depart Atlanta JFK International Airport via British Airways jet service to London. Meals will be served in flight.

 

DAY 02:

LONDON / ACCRA, GHANA

Upon your arrival in London in time to connect with your continuing flight to Accra, Ghana. Upon your arrival in Accra, you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

 

DAY 03:

ACCRA

This morning enjoy, a city tour including the old and new township. Drive along the Gulf of Guinea, see the Christiansborg Castle, visit Black Star Square, State ceremonial grounds. Tour James Town where former President Kwame Nkrumah started his political campaign for independence. Visit old Accra Harbour, the National Museum, the W.E.B. DuBois Center, and the Arts Center. Drive to Legon to visit the University of Ghana.  Return to your hotel.

 

DAY 04:

ACCRA / KUMASI

This morning drive to Kumasi where we explore the legends of the famous Ashanti whose legacies are still evident today. Enjoy a city tour of Kumasi; drive past the statue of Prempeh, Centotaph, Kumasi Fort, the City Center, the Statue of Okomfo Anokye and the Royal Mausoleum. Continue to Prempeh II Jubilee Museum, the Cultural Center, visit the campus of the University ofScience and Technology, see the Neolithic engravings.Proceed to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 05:

KUMASI

Morning visit the craft village of Bonwire, home of the world famous Kente cloth, a sample of which decorates the foyer of the United Nations Building in New York. Witness the actual weaving process on a traditional loom. Continue to Ntonso, the center of the Kuntunkuni (traditional mourning cloth) and Adinkra cloth, observing the dying process. Journey to Ahwiaa, the center of the carving industry. See an assortment of Akuaba dolls and other wooden items like stools and figurines. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 06:

KUMASI/ ASSIN MANSO / ELMINA

Morning drive to the Central Region of Ghana. You will make a stop in Asin Manso, an important site of the river where enslaved Africans were given their last bath and rested befor the last leg of their forced march to the slave dungeons of Elmina.  Visit Kakum National Park,created to protect Ghana’s rapidly vanishing rainforest. You will have the opportunity to see a variety of plants and trees and hear the economic and cultural uses of many of the plants. The forest also provides ingredients for medicines to treat a wide variety of ailments – from serious illnesses such as leprosy and small pox to simple problems such as an upset stomach or toothache. Continue to Elmina for dinner and overnight at your hotel.

 

DAY 07:

ELMINA

Embark on a memorable historical tour to the famous and infamous forts and castles of the Central Region of Ghana. History will unfold whose impact has been and is still felt beyond the shores of Ghana. Visit Ft. St. Jago for a panoramic view of the historic township of Elmina. Continue to Elmina Castle, also known as St. George’s Castle where you will see the dungeons where many enslaved Africans were held before being shipped to the New World. Proceed to Cape Coast University for a brief tour of the campus. Visit Cape Coast Castle and the West African Historical Museum. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 08:

ELMINA 

Leisure time for personal activities. Transfer Accra for dinner and overnight.

 

DAY 09:

ACCRA / LONDON 

Full day at leisure for last minute exploration or shopping. This evening, after dinner, transfer to the airport in time to check in for your return flight to London.

 

DAY 10:

LONDON / NEW YORK

Arrival in London in the early morning local time.  Check in for your return flight to New York.  Arrive JFK in the afternoon, local time.
