Depart USA via jet service to Bamako via Paris, France. Meals will be served in flight.
DAY 02:
PARIS / BAMAKO
Upon your arrival you will be met and transferred to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 03:
BAMAKO / SEGOU / DJENNE
Grand Marche, Bamako
After breakfast, enjoy a city tour of Bamako including a visit to the Grand Marche (market). Depart Bamako to Djenne. Visit Segou enroute. Segou gives one an idea of what colonial life must have been like. Stop for lunch before continuing to Djenne. Visit Bambara and Bobo villages enroute. Djenne is situated on an island in the Niger River. Take a ferry across the river to the island. Upon arrival in Djenne check in at your Campement and rest. Dinner and overnight.
DAY 04:
DJENNE / DOGONCOUNTRY
Mosque at Djenne
After breakfast visit Djenne. See the Market, the elegant Grande Mosque, one of the finest examples of Sudanese mud architecture. Drive through the city, see the sacred well, and the cultural mission at the archaeological site of Djenne- Djeno. After lunch, depart to Dogon country. Stop in Songo to see the rock paintings. Arrive at your camp and get settled. This evening enjoy an African Evening where you will meet your Dogon guide and hear the legends of the Dogon. Overnight.
DAY 05:
DOGON COUNTRY
Rock Paintings Near Dogon
After breakfast at the camp, depart for visits to the villages of Ireli and Tireli, where you can see the Fete des Masques, and Banani. Enjoy a picnic lunch. Continue to Douentza along the falaise (cliffs) with visits to the picturesque Dogon villages enroute. Get settled at your camp and enjoy dinner under the stars.
DAY 06:
DOGON / TOMBOUCTOU
After breakfast depart for Tombouctou (Timbuctu). Along the drive you will enjoy diverse landscapes, mountains, hills and desert. Enjoy lunch at a Touraeg campement near Tombouctou. Cross the River Niger and arrive in Tombouctou. Check into your hotel. Dinner and overnight.
DAY 07:
TOMBOUCTU
Sankore Mosque, Timbuctu
After breakfast, enjoy a city tour of Tombouctu. See the houses of the European explorers who came here. Visit the city mosque and the museum. After lunch return to the hotel to rest. This afternoon enjoy a camel ride to visit the Touareg camps and around the city. Return to your hotel. This evening enjoy lamb kabobs and a show in the desert outside Tombouctou.
DAY 08:
TOMBOUCTU / BAMAKO
After breakfast depart for Tombouctu. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Bamako. Upon your arrival in Bamako you will have day use of hotel rooms. After dinner transfer to the airport for your return flight to Atlanta via Paris.
